- Marco Asensio will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League opener at home to APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday night after bizarrely picking up an infection after shaving his legs.
The young Spaniard, who has been in superb form at the start of this season, missed training this week which led to boss Zinedine Zidane telling a news conference that he had a ‘pimple which stopped him pulling up his socks.’
An ABC Espana Report later revealed the infection had been suffered after the youngster had shaved his legs, with Real Madrid later confirming Asensio will not be involved when they released their squad list.
Boss Zidane has previously praised the youngster’s left foot, rather than his legs, with Asensio insisting the Frenchman had compared him to Lionel Messi.
‘Zidane told me that since Messi, he had never seen a left foot like mine; he told COPE
‘I was a little impressed, because Messi is a piece of a footballer.’
The 21-year-old has four goals in six club games at the start of the new season and will be missed during the clash against APOEL, but his absence is eased by the fact Cristiano Ronaldo is available to return despite being in the middle of a five-game domestic ban.
