The Argentine superstar has a staggering £500,000-per-week deal on the table.

However, he’s yet to pen fresh terms with the Catalan heavyweights.

His current £336,000-per-week deal means he rakes in nearly £17.5m from Barcelona every year.

American magazine Forbes ranked Messi third in their annual rich list.

His nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo is top, with NBA sensation LeBron James second.

Messi’s income stream is also boosted by lucrative sponsorship contract.

The 30-year-old is a long-term Adidas ambassador. Controversially, Barcelona’s shirts are made by Nike.

He has also previously promoted Pepsi, Gillette and Turkish Airlines.

Ronaldo rakes in an estimated £360,000-per-week at Real.

That returns around £18.7m every year before tax.

Ronaldo’s tax affairs were scrutinised earlier this year.

At the height of the saga, his representatives published documents that showed earnings in Spain of around £20m per year.

Ronaldo has a highly profitable and secretive contract with Nike.

It’s thought the 32-year-old has life-time agreement with the sportswear giants.

Ronaldo also has smaller deals with Armani, Tag Heuer, PokerStars and Castrol.
